About
the Pass Mountain Trail is one of the least used in the central Shenandoah National Park. With a pleasant forest walk along the ridge, and nice views of Mary's Rock, the trail ends at the Pass Mountain Shelter. From there it's a short walk along the AT over the summit of Pass Mountain down to Double Bear Rocks with beautiful views westward of New Market Gap, Luray, and Strickler Knob. Optional stop for food, drinks and fun after the hike before heading back to RVA. Hike distance: 8-9 miles Elevation gain: 1850' Difficulty level: moderate Dogs allowed: yes, must be on leash Carpool fee: What to wear/bring: Wear broken in hiking boots or shoes; bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water (at least 1.5 liters), as well as sunscreen, bug spray, hat, $ for carpool and post-hike food and drink.
