Family Weekend Schedule Bridgewater College parents and families, join us for Family Weekend Sept. 11-13! Saturday, Sept. 12 Morning 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Family Weekend Information Tent (Forrer Learning Commons) Stop by the tent in front of the Forrer Learning Commons to get the schedule for the weekend, a campus map, and fun BC spirit items. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Brunch (KCC Main Dining Hall) Enjoy brunch in the main dining hall. $12 at the door for guests; no charge for BC students with meal plans. 10 a.m. Family Weekend Cornhole Tournament (Campus Mall) Bring a teammate or come join another team for the chance to win a coveted intramural t-shirt. Sign up at the Family Weekend Information Tent between 9-10 a.m. Walk-ins are accepted until 10:15 a.m. 11-11:45 a.m. Family Weekend Reception (Forrer Learning Commons) Meet the faculty and staff who work to support your students in the classroom and across campus. Saturday, Sept. 12 Afternoon 12-1:30 p.m. Legacy Family Reception (Wampler President’s Suite, Nininger Hall) 12-1:00 p.m. Family Weekend Spotlight Classes THE CURRENT STATE OF THE FAMILY IN AMERICA (Prof. Skip Burzumato) From dating and courtship to marriage and childbearing, the American family is constantly evolving—and often in the headlines. In this session, explore current research on the state of family life in the U.S. and consider what the future may hold for today’s “twenty-somethings.” ALCHEMY ADVENTURES: TURNING SCIENCE INTO GOLD (Dr. Ken Overway) Step into a world where science meets wonder. Watch as ordinary elements transform before your eyes through dazzling experiments and mind-boggling reactions. Join us for a magical journey that reveals the golden secrets of chemistry! ROBINS TO RAPTORS: OBSERVING BIRDS OF OUR BACKYARD (Dr. Robyn Puffenbarger) Come explore the Bridgewater College skin collection—a teaching set of preserved birds—and get an up-close look at woodpeckers, owls, songbirds, raptors, and more that call Virginia home. We’ll share fun facts, answer your questions, and offer tips on how to attract more birds to your backyard in this engaging session. UNDERSTANDING THE THANKSGIVING TABLE ARGUMENTS: HOW OUR ATTITUDES SHAPE THE WAY WE VIEW IMPORTANT ISSUES (Prof. Jen Babcock) Ever had a conversation with family or friends about something important and then been shocked by their position on that issue? In this fun interactive session, we’ll learn a little about the theory that explains when persuasive messages are most likely to succeed, and take a survey to explore our own attitudes on certain issues. Hopefully, you’ll leave with some insight on navigating those tricky Thanksgiving dinner discussions! *More Spotlight Classes to come – check here for updates!* 1 p.m. Women’s Soccer v Marymount (Soccer and Flag Football Field) 1-3 p.m. Kidzone-Endzone-Funzone! (Mapp Tailgate Field) Free fun and snacks for children 13 and under. Kids can enjoy crafts, coloring, bracelet making, cornhole, and more. Children must be supervised by an adult family member. Your football game day ticket will give you admission to this area. 2 p.m. Football v Susquehanna (Jopson Field) Come cheer on our BC Eagles! Tickets must be purchased online. Adults are $11, $9 for Seniors (62+), and $6 for students K-12 and students with IDs from other colleges. Children under 6 and BC students (with their BC ID) have free admission. 4 p.m. Men’s Soccer v Gettysburg (Soccer and Flag Football Field) Saturday, Sept. 12 Evening 7:30 p.m. Music Faculty Concert (Carter Center Concert Hall) A free evening of music presented by the Bridgewater College music faculty. 9 p.m. CEAT presents BC’s Got Talent (Cole Hall) Doors open at 8:45 p.m. Get ready for a night of music, moves, and must-see moments at BC’s Got Talent! Watch as our talented students take the stage to sing, dance, and show off their unique skills. Cheer them on—and don’t forget, your vote helps decide who takes home the crown!
