We will do a three hour six mile kayak (or canoe) trip on the upper James River. As an option following that, Dennis will host you for a meal at his Kendal at Lexington community dining facility. It's a 2 hour drive from Lexington to the Fan of Richmond. # 6 Mile James River Kayak or Canoe Trip - Buchanan to Arcadia # Details This short but exciting 6-mile river trip follows a lively section of the James River with good current and numerous Class I and II rapids. Guests check in at the Buchanan riverfront shop for orientation before launching downstream toward Breeden Bottom/Arcadia Campground beneath the Arcadia bridge. The outing emphasizes active paddling and scenery, and requires a return shuttle; it is slightly more challenging than the gentler Springwood float. Safety orientation and equipment are provided to prepare paddlers for the river conditions. ## What's included * Boat rental * Paddles * Life jackets * Safety orientation * River maps * Use of dry bags * All required shuttles ## Itinerary 1. Customer check in at the retail store and verify all paperwork is finalized. 2. Gear issue at the Boat Barn: guests are issued dry bags, dry boxes, life jackets, and river maps. 3. Trip safety/orientation briefing in the classroom covering river safety, maps, and significant rapids. 4. Customers launch from behind the boat barn right into the James River. 5.
