Rocktown Writers Guild Monthly Meeting
by Harrisonburg Writers Critique Circle
About
**Come discover your Harrisonburg/Rockingham Writing Community.** Whether you’re scribbling your first poem or plotting your tenth novel, this is your chance to meet and network with other authors. If you’ve been looking for that boost, that community, that connection—you won’t find a better place than the RWG. **Bring your characters to our July 1st meeting for a workshop and community potluck!** When it comes to telling stories, a great plot will only get you so far. Keeping your readers invested often comes down to telling the story through the right narrator, namely: your main character. But **how well do you know your main character?** Do you understand how and why they’ll react to the situations your plot puts them in? Can you explain (concisely!) what motivations and wounds and deep-seated values drive them? Could you sit on the hot seat and answer any questions we might through at you *as your character*? Whether you’re too attached to a precious character who has lived in your head rent-free for so long that you’re not sure where they start and you end, or you haven’t quite figured them out yet, our July workshop meeting will help you flesh them out in a way that helps drive your story forward. Not feeling the hot seat? No worries! We’ll only have time to interview a few characters, but everyone will get a chance to workshop characters and go home with some resources for digging deeper. **We encourage everyone to contribute something to the potluck**, sweet or savory! We’ll also need paper plates/bowls, cups, plastic cutlery, and napkins. If you’re planning to join us at the Massanutten Regional Library on July 1st at 6pm, please [sign up to bring a dish to share](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-JC25R_WPFM7d70wZuJAaQZqMlYuXovdDKO3Gmd3tQg/edit?usp=sharing). **While we meet at the library, the RWG is neither endorsed by, nor affiliated with, the library.**
